Our Story

Our brand, AlataGold, is a celebration of the African Woman.

AlataGold, Timeless beauty that transcends generations! Many years ago, West African women traders created Alata samina, now well known as the “African Black Soap” for their personal use and subsequently for commercial purposes. They used their creative energy and ingenuity to make this soap from local ingredients such as palm kernel oil, potash derived from plantain skins and or cocoa pods. Like oral tradition, making the African Black Soap has passed on from our grandmothers and mothers to us. It is now our turn to maintain the artisanal methods, create our versions and pass it on. It is for this reason we make it our brand mission at AlataGold to (1) celebrate the African woman for her creative energy, ingenuity, and resilience, (2) preserve the Timeless cultural heritage of the African Black Soap (Alata Samina), and (3) promote sustainable living by using natural and safe ingredients. Our founders, two great friends - Ato & Ekow with diverse and deep experiences in business believe that African brands can be global. We use AlataGold in our homes with our children, shared it with friends and they have loved it! Our goal is to bring that same experience to a lot more people.
